Community College Adjunct Faculty
Anne Arundel Community College
A part-time faculty member may apply for promotion from Lecturer I to Lecturer II after teaching 12 credit hours for Anne Arundel Community College.
Lecturer I $636 per credit hour
Lecturer II* $751 per credit hour
Since the types of courses adjunct faculty teach vary widely, no one pay scale reflects all the possibilities. For information about the pay for a specific course, contact the chair of the appropriate academic department. Pay increases with teaching experience at CSM. The chart below gives the current pay for many credit courses. One hour of class time per week equals one load equivalent. According to the chart, someone teaching a course with a three-load equivalent for the first time would receive $1,563, while someone teaching the course in the seventh semester would receive $2,166. Frederick Community College: Adjunct Faculty Pay Scale and Procedures (Effective: January 1, 2009)
Credit Adjunct Advancement Program: To recognize demonstrated teaching excellence and a commitment to continued professional growth, the Adjunct Advancement Program at Howard Community College has been designed to reward dedicated part-time faculty through a multi-tier pay scale:
Adjunct Instructor
$650/credit
Senior Adjunct Instructor
$700/credit
Master Adjunct Instructor $750/credit
Eligibility for advancement to first the Senior level, and then the Master level, is predicated on the following criteria for each advancement petition.
- Demonstrated Teaching Excellence
- At Least 18 Credit-Hours of HCC Teaching
- Continued Dedication to Ongoing Professional Development
- Demonstration of proficiency with required competencies and topic areas.
Four-year Public Colleges and Universities
$2,000 per course, up to three courses per semester. After three courses, part-time faculty are under contract, for which salary varies.
St. Mary's College of Maryland
$3500 per 4-credit, semester long course. The standard number of credits for SMC courses is four credits.
Four-year Independent Colleges and Universities
$3500 per course, with a maximum of three courses per year. Part-time faculty members who have been teaching on this basis for a few years, or who have significant prior experience can earn more, up to $5,000 per course (although no faculty member has yet attained that rate).
